by Carene Lydia Lopez on July 4, 2018

This was my fourth day in Guadalajara. meli and I walked over to the Museo de las Artes de Universidad de Guadalajara, which is in one of the older university buildings.

The first room is an auditorium with murals by José Clemente Orozco – El hombre creador y rebelde y El pueblo y sus falsos líderes.

A room upstairs had the drawings that Orozco made for the mural. It was interesting to see the process and see, for instance, a two-headed man become a five-headed man.

Across from that room, I was surprised to be in the balcony of the auditorium and have a better view of the murals.

Metafísico was a video installation of Orozco’s murals that you could experience sitting, standing, or lying on the floor.

Another exhibit was Rafael Coronel’s Alegoría de la razón. Here we were invited to be part of the fantasy by dressing up as wizards. Coronel combines the styles of different artists to create his vision of the human figure.

Sin más que decir by “Juan Bastardo” (Juan Eduardo Mendoza Ramírez) is an explosion of color and examples of how color is used.
